Tyre Coast Nature Reserve

Tyre Coastal Nature Reserve is a 400 ha coastal zone located near the historical city of Tyre in the south of Lebanon. TCNR was declared a nature reserve in 1998; it comprises a sandy beach, fresh water springs and agriculture lands. It is an important nesting site for the sea turtle Mauremys caspica.

A bird watching hide was installed by a group of environmental NGOs overlooking the conservation area, and is designed in a way that permits its expansion to accommodate an increasing number of visitors. This bird hide will be used for awareness campaigns focusing on the protection of birdlife.

Medwetcoast Project Lebanon, an environmental organization, will be tagging turtles with a local code for Tyre Coast Nature Reserve. The code is LB-TR.
