Asad ‘Azi

(1955- )

Azi was born in Shafa ’Amr in the western Galilee in 1955. He studied art at the University of Haifa where he got his Bachelor’s degree, the continued his studies at Tel Aviv University. He visited the Italian village of Cararra in 1981 where he learned about marble sculpting.


He was commissioned in Nigeria to paint murals on a government building. As a result of his life experiences ‘Azi sees himself as a place of meeting of western and eastern cultures; producing an active kind of art.

‘Azi has published many articles in Arabic and Hebrew newspapers and has received several awards. He has participated in more than 50 collective exhibitions in Palestine/Israel, in Europe and the United States.

He currently teaches and lives in Yaffa.
