Vera Tamari

(1945- )

Born in Jerusalem in 1945, Tamari received her undergraduate degree in Fine Arts from Beirut in 1966. She specialized in Ceramics at the Institute of Statale per la Ceramica in Florence, Italy and obtained her M. Phil in Islamic Art and Architecture from the Oxford University. Tamari has held solo exhibitions in Jerusalem, Ramallah, and Amman, and participated in a variety of group exhibitions in the Arab World, Europe. In 1994, she participated in “Forces of Change: Women Artists from the Arab World” exhibit at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. Tamari is a founding member of al-Wasiti Art Center in Jerusalem and of “New Visions Art Group”, which was established during the first intifada in the West Bank.

Tamar is a member of the League of Palestinian Artists and Khalil Sakakini Cultural Center. She has several publications on art. She is a lecturer of Islamic Art and Architecture at Birzeit University.
