Moroni

Moroni is the largest city and capital of Comoros, located on the island of Ngazidja (Grand Comore), the largest of the islands in the archipelago. Moroni has a population of about 30,000 people. The northern two-thirds of the island of Ngazidja are dominated by a rocky plain known as La Grille. The southern third of the island is dominated by an active volcano, Karthala, which stands over 2361 meters (7000 feet) high. Karthala's crater is nearly a mile in diameter, making it the largest active crater in the world.

Moroni, and Mutsamudu on Nzwani have artificial harbors. Almost all freight is carried by sea.

Prince Said Ibrahim International Airport is just outside the city.
