Khairiya Saqqaf

Khairiya Saqqaf was born in Mecca, Saudi Arabia in 1951. She earned her BA in Arabic Literature from the Girl’s University College of King Saud University in 1973 and continued to receive her MA from the University of Missouri in 1976. Khairiya was the editor of the women’s section of the daily newspaper ar-Riyad in the early 1980s. After receiving her doctorate, Khairiya began teaching at the Girls’ University College. The Academic Director of the University Centre for Women Students and curriculum co-ordinator at King Saud University, Khairiya is also the author of An Tubhir Nahwa al-Abad (Taking Off into the Distance), a collection of short stories published in 1981.
