The Fox’s Tail

Once upon a time, there was an old woman who had a lamb which she used to milk for herself and her children.

The fox knew about the milk, so he started to lick it every night and run away. The old woman wanted to know who was stealing the milk, so she hid in the corner of the room and waited. Meanwhile, the fox appeared and started to lick the milk.
The old woman hit the fox with an iron stick and cut his tail.

The fox yelled in pain saying: “Please, madam, give me back my tail.”

“Give me back my milk and I will give you back your tail!” replied the old woman.

The fox went to the sheep and said: “I want some milk for the old woman, so that she will give me back my tail.”

“Give us some green leaves to eat and we will give you some milk,” replied the sheep.

The fox went to the tree and asked: “Give me some of your green leaves for the sheep, so that they would give me some milk for the old woman so that she will give me back my tail.”

“Bring me a man to till the land around me so that my branches grow, and I will give you some green leaves,” replied the tree.

The fox went to the farmer and begged: “Would you please till the land around the tree so that the tree will give me some green leaves for the sheep, so that the sheep will give me some milk for the old woman who will give me back my tail.”

“Bring me a pair of shoe to walk to the tree,” replied the farmer.

The fox went to the shoemaker and told him: “I need a shoe for the farmer, so that he can go and till the land around the tree, so that the tree will give me some green leaves for the sheep so that the sheep will give me some milk for the old woman who will give me back my tail.”

The shoemaker felt bad for the fox and gave him an old shoe. The fox felt happy and took the shoe to the farmer who wore it and went to the tree to till the land. The tree was happy and gave the fox some leaves. The fox took the leaves to the sheep. The sheep ate the leaves and gave some milk to the fox.

The fox carried the milk and went to the old woman, he was so tired that he was panting.

When he arrived, he told the old woman: “Here is the milk you asked me for”. “Give me back my tail now.”

The old woman returned the tail to the fox and scolded him: “You got yourself into trouble. Take your tail. You thought stealing milk is easy?”
