Mamdouh Udwan

(1941-2005)

Playwright and poet, born in a village close to Hama,
Syria. He was educated in Damascus where he graduated with a degree in English Literature. He first worked as a journalist. He has published about 8 collections of poetry, seven plays, dive books translated form western literature, four dramatic adaptations and one, many TV dramas and hundreds of articles. His collections of poetry include: The Green Shadows (1962); The Impossible Time has Come (1982), My Mother Chases her Murderer (1982), The Waving of the Tired Hands (1982). He wrote a televison drama, al-Mutanabbi.

From 1979 he worked as a translator in the Syrian Ministry of Information.
