Samira Badran

(1954- )

Badran was born in
Libya in 1954. Her father, the artist Jamal Badran, played an important role in showing her the world of art. She studied at the Cairo University Fine Arts College, and at the Florence Fine Arts Academy where she received a degree in etching and painting in 1982.

In 1980, Badran undertook a mural painting project at Belgium’s Liége University.

She has exhibited in Jerusalem, Ramallah, Paris, Spain, London, the Washington Museum of Women in the Arts, and in Arab countries.

Badran’s works are filled with an “explosive anger characterized by a savage psychodrama of paint”. She has recently experimented with works based on photocopies and with painting on photographs.

She now lives and works in Spain.
